When you apply you are telling the organisation you want to volunteer.

Before you apply you should think if the opportunity is right for you.

Is it something you enjoy?

Can you get there?

Is the support there right for you?

Are you available when the sessions are on?

Can you commit for these sessions?

Are you happy to do their training?

Are you happy to do a DBS if they need one?

Are you happy for someone to give you a reference if you need one?
Volunteering opportunities on the Volunteering Hub

There are lots of volunteering opportunities on the Volunteering Hub.

Organisations are a group of people with a particular purpose.

Innovate Trust is an organisation who supports adults with learning disabilities.

Some volunteering opportunities are with Innovate Trust.

With some Innovate Trust opportunities you need to be supported by Innovate Trust to volunteer for that opportunity.

If you want to apply, click on the apply button.

The organisation’s contact details will appear.

Then you need to call them or email them.

You can plan what to say before you do this.
What to plan for

Plan to tell them your name.

Plan to tell them what opportunity you want to volunteer for.

Plan to have your phone number or email ready to give to them.

Plan to ask them what the next steps are.

Applying for volunteering does not always mean you will be successful.

You will be told if you can volunteer or not.

If they say no, this could be because their spaces are full.

Or this could be because you do not have the skills needed right now.

It is OK to feel disappointed if this happens.

You can contact them to ask them why you were not successful.

Then you will know what to do differently next time.

You can look for a different opportunity.
