I’m Simone and I volunteer at the Secret Garden. I found out about the Secret Garden Project through my social worker and support planner. I told them I wanted to do gardening. They found me some gardening volunteering at the Secret Garden.
I like it here. I dig in the garden. I use different tools like shovels. I want to plant roses and freesias in the garden where I have dug.
I have done Health and Safety training too. I know I can use the tools safely. I like that I am trusted to do this. I am a professional.
There was a storm and lots of branches came down in the garden. I have been clearing these up too. It’s been good to fix things.
I like that my volunteering helps the animals. My favourites are foxes and owls. I see myself as a bit of a night owl!
One of the best parts of volunteering here is riding in the buggy. Sometimes the museum let us use it as a thank you for all our hard work.
