April 2025
Earth Day happens every year on 22nd April. It is about showing we care about the planet.
The theme for Earth Day this year is Our Power, Our Planet. This means helping our planet by using clean energy like sunshine, wind, and water instead of dirty energy like oil and gas. Clean energy doesn’t make the air dirty and helps people and animals stay safe.
Everyone can work together to take care of the Earth, so it stays a nice place to live. You can do this when you volunteer. Here are some ideas we came up with:
- Car share to the session if you can. Minibus journeys can be good. Less fuel is used.
- Get the bus to the session if you can. Less fuel is used.
- Walk to the session if you can. No fuel is used.
- Turn the lights off when you leave. No electricity is wasted.
- Turn the heating off when you leave. No gas is wasted.
- Don’t open the window and have the heating on. No gas is wasted.
- Don’t boil too much water in the kettle. No electricity is wasted.
- Use reusable gloves. Reusing things means less waste.
- Mend clothes so you can use them again. Reusing things means less waste.
- Use hand operated tools instead of petrol or electric ones. No fuel is used.
- Bring a packed lunch instead of getting a takeaway. Less packaging waste.
- Bring your packed lunch in a reusable box and use a reusable bottle. No packaging is wasted.
- Choose a type of volunteering that helps the planet. Maybe tree planting or conservation.

Looking at this list makes me realise how much we can do.

Everyone can help the planet when they volunteer. Try some of these ideas. If you already do all of them then you should feel proud!
